IPL IN A SPOT FIX – CAN THE “SPOT” ON THE GAME BE FIXED?

ipl6-fixing-scandal-bcci
The voice for banning the IPL is only growing louder with each passing day as the web of the scandal comes to light.

The controversy-ridden Indian Premier League (IPL) has turned out to be nothing but a hell for cricket and a haven for black money. The IPL spot-fixing scandal that was recently exposed by the Delhi Police last week runs much deeper than just a few rogue players. After the confession of Rajasthan Royal Players, Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandila in the scandal, the investigators believe that the rot could be much deeper and wider.

With the kind of money floating in IPL, corruption was imminent. It was only waiting to be exposed. Yet the BCCI officials and even the government chose to turn a blind eye to it.

Senior BJP Leader Yashwant Sinha said in a statement yesterday that a report prepared by the Standing Committee on Finance, which he is heading, had pointed out “financial irregularities and involvement of black money in the tournament, but the government had not acted pro-actively to stop these illegal activities.”

This indicates a nexus which could be much more deep and complex than what the evidence suggests. Actor Vindu Dara Singh, who is in police custody has confessed to fixing and also revealed some of the big names in Bollywood who could be involved in the scam. Mumbai Cops on Thursday summoned BCCI chief N. Sreenivasan’s son-in-law, owner of CSK, in connection with the controversy. Not even the umpires have been left untouched.

Pakistani Umpire Asad Rauf has also been charged with links to the spot-fixing scandal. ICC in response was quick to remove Asad Rauf from the panel of match officials for the upcoming Champions Trophy in England, as his role in the scandal is presently being investigated by the Mumbai Police. Meanwhile, BCCI is still deliberating on their future course of action.

The spot-fixing controversy has tarnished the image of the only sport which India has. Rahul Dravid, the captain of Rajasthan Royals whose three players had been arrested on charges of spot fixing, described it as tough as handling “bereavement in some ways”. Strong reactions are emerging from the cricketing world and cricket fans. Fans are fast losing faith in the game which they worship, as they are feeling cheated by the players whom they once treated as demi-gods.

The voice for banning the IPL is only growing louder with each passing day as the web of the scandal comes to light. It would only be in the wider interest of the game that appropriate mechanisms are devised to enforce fair play and punish the defectors. However, the big question is can lost faith of the cricket fan be revived?

8 balls Risach moment: Annihilation of Mumbai Indians by Rajasthan Royals

Chandila celebrates Sachin wickets.

Is there any word to describe the feeling when you are just a novice and you are facing two living legends of Cricket? Is there any word to describe feelings and madness engulfed you when you have sent two living legends, Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar, back to the pavilion in just 8 balls?

There is no word to describe those feelings of madness, euphoria, joy and living a dream. You have to invent a new word for that. An unknown Ajit Chandila lived those moments when he scalped two stalwarts of Circket-Ricky ponting and Sachin Tendulkar in the span of 8 balls.Isn’t it unbelievable? Yes it is.

Such was the impact of this ‘RiSaCh ‘ (Acronym for Ricky Sachin and Chandila) moment that Rajasthan Royals thrashed powerful Mumbai Indians by 87 runs in the Pepsi Indian Premier League-VI match at the SMS Stadium here on a pleasant Wednesday night.

This venue is lucky for Amit Chandila.Last year at this venue Ajit Cahndila had a hat trick when he got wickets of Sourav Ganguly, Jesse Ryder and Robin Uthappa playing against Pune Warriors. But there is no match of this Risach moment that he lived in those 8 balls.

Rajasthan Royals won the toss and chose to bat first.Opening pair Rahane(68 runs on 54 balls) and Watson (31 Runs on 25 balls) set the benchmark that motivated other batsmen to score more runs.

D Yagnink (34 runs on 24 balls) and BJ Hodge (27 runs on 15 balls) placed Rajasthan Royals in a commanding position.Mumbai Indians bowling attack proved lackluster.Star bowler Lasith Malinga conceded 16 runs in an over and it forced Captain Ricky Ponting to test 6 bowlers till 9th over.

Batting of Kings XI Punjab was the sole reason of their defeat. They could not face lethal bowling attack of Rajasthan Royals. Kings XI Punjab’s top three batsmen could score only 5 runs.Even Captain Adam Gilchrist could not score a single run.

Kings XI Punjab kept loosing wickets with regular interval. At one time their score was 3 for 10 and half of the team was back to pavilion at 67 runs.

Sreesanth of Rajasthan Royals bowled very well.

Rajasthan Royals chased the target of 125 very easily. Openers SR Watson (34) and  AM Rahane (32) paved the way for an easy victory.

Captain Gilchrist of Kings XI blamed failure of top order for the defeat.

Adam Gilchrist said “We let 7-8 deliveries slip in the innings. We have been bowled out twice now, and it isn’t acceptable. It starts at the top, with me. Then in the first 3-4 overs, we gave Shane Watson enough to hit, but we can’t blame the bowlers because we didn’t give them a good total to defend. But they fought hard.”

Rajasthan Royals captain Rahul Dravid  praised Faulkner ,Rahane and Sanju Samson for the victory.

Rajasthan Royals’ captain Rahul Dravid said “It was pretty nervous in the end there. Heart rate around 150-155, but Rahane and the young kind Sanju Samson played really well, showed a lot of composure. We should have got there before the last over. It is a good cricket wicket, not all wickets should be 180-190, these ones make for good exciting cricket. So I am happy with the wicket. Faulkner has been exceptional for us, be brings in a lot of energy in the group. We are happy with the start we had, but we’ll learn with the challenges.”

Kolkata Knight Riders 180 for 4 (Gambhir 53, Kallis 41) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 132 for 7 (NLTC Perera 36, P Patel 27) by 48 runs.

Defending Champion Kolkata Knight Riders beats Sunrisers Hyderabad by 48 runs in Pepsi Indian Premier League, in Kolkata.

This is second victory for KKR and second defeat for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Gautam Gambhir has been declared Man of the Match for his brilliant knock of 53 runs on . Gautam scored 53 runs on just 45 balls.Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and chose to bat first.KKR decision was proved right when their batting line brutally thrashed bowling attack of Sunrisers Hyderabad.

MS Bisla (28 runs off 24 balls ) and Gautam Gambhir (53 off 45) provided a strong and consolidated platform for KKR on which Eoin Morgan (47) and Jacques Kallis (41) scored a huge score 0f 180 for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

KKR lost first wicket at 59 and second on 102.Third wicket was lost at 169 and fourth one at 180.This is enough to tell how brutal their batting attack against Sunrisers Hyderabad was.

180 proved too much for Sunrisers .Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling attack was weak and batsman followed their bowler’s performance as an example. PA Patel(27) and CL White(34) tried to defy KKR lethal bowling attack but they could not face it for longer period.

Captain KC Sangakkara could score only 2 runs and later on Sunriser Hyderabad batting collapsed easily. Only NLTC Perera scored 36 runs.Kallis sent him back to pavilion.

Sunriser Hyderabad was losing wickets with regular interval. Sunriser Hyderabad lost first wicket at 57 and second on 68.

Later on Sangakkara accepted that 180 was a big score to chase. He was expecting good knock from CL White.

Captain Sangakkara: “We brought it back pretty well after the first six overs, but lost a bit of momentum. We were outplayed by a better side. If we had limited them to about 160, we were never really in the chase from the start. We thought in the Powerplay, having White on the top would help him get a big one for us. We’ve got good hitting power in White, Reddy and Perera. The rest of us have to rotate the strike.”

Kallis has contributed with bowling also.He took 3 crucial wickets of NLTC Perera,PA Patel and CL White.

Gambhir praised Kallis and Morgan for their contribution in the victory.

Gambhir said “It was a good wicket to bat on, the way Morgan and Jacques batted it was fantastic. We were thinking of 160 at one stage, but to get 180 is great. Morgan has been an incredible batsman; we wanted to give him more time. We wanted someone to complement Sunil, the way Senanayake and Sunil bowled, it’s great for us. We got the right pick to bowl in tandem with Sunil. When you’re in good nick, you’ve got to take the team along.”

Gautam  Gambhir has been declared Man of the Match.

ipl-t20-2013-starts-today
Opening ceremony of The Pepsi IPL 2013 today will be held at 7:30 PM at the Lake Stadium in Kolkata.

Opening ceremony of  The Pepsi IPL 2013 today will be held at 7:30 PM at the Lake Stadium in Kolkata. It is a biggest football stadium in Asia. Many Bollywood stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif,  Deepika Padukone etc. will perform in the ceremony after JLo cancelled her live performance due to differences with organisers.

There is a good news coming from meteorological department. Meteorological department predicted there will be no rain Tuesday.

“Maximum and minimum temperature will be 36 and 26 degree Celsius, respectively. The sky will be partly cloudy whereas rainfall is zero,” the official told IANS

Just before the opening there are many controversies in IPL 6. BJP, Shiv Sena, MNS demanded to cancel IPL6 matches in Maharashtra to save water in drought.

In IPL6 there will play 76 matches between 9 teams. All teams will put their heart and soul to win the tournament. Shah Rukh Khan the owner of Kolkata Knight Rider (champion of IPL5) is confident that his team will perform well in IPL6 also and will win the Pepsi IPL 2013.

First match of IPL6 will played at Eden Gardens at Kolkata on 3 April 2013 between KKR(defending champions) and Delhi Daredevils.

The final match of IPL6 will also be played at same ground .

IPL6 Controversy : BJP, Shiv Sena, MNS demand to cancel IPL6 matches in Maharashtra to save water in drought

ipl-t20-2013-starts-today
Opening ceremony of The Pepsi IPL 2013 today will be held at 7:30 PM at the Lake Stadium in Kolkata.

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Maharashtra unit has demanded that IPL6 T20 matches should not be organised in Maharashtra as thousands of litres of water will be wasted to maintain the pitch. Maharashtra is going through the worst drought of the century so it is not justified to waste precious water for IPL.

Mr. Vinod Tawade has written a letter in this regard to IPL chairman Rajiv Shukla to reconsider organising the T20 matches in Maharashtra.

Indeed this water can be used to fight the drought.

Leader of opposition in the state legislative council Vinod Tawade said,  “What sense does it make to use many thousand litres of water to maintain the pitch on which cricket matches are played,” the BJP leader said, adding, “This water is being used in a state seeing the worst drought of the century. It is not justified.”

The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and the Shiv Sena also supported Mr. Tawade.

While NCP rejected opposition’s argument saying Mumbai and Pune where IPL matches will be played are not facing drought.

MNS chief Raj Thackeray said, “My question to Sharad Pawar – whose brainchild IPL is – is whether such matches should happen in the state at a time like this?”

As per the current schedule, 16 T20 matches will be played in Maharashtra.

Mr. Tawade rejected the idea of donating revenue generated from IPL matches to drought-hit Maharashtra. He said water is more important than money.

“Irrespective of whether the IPL is conducted or not, the grounds will have to be watered so as to maintain them. In any case there is no drought in Mumbai or Pune regions.” NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik said.

How King of controversies Shah Rukh Khan exasperated Jennifer Lopez

IPL is infamous for controversies. We have seen various controversies in IPL. IPL6 is about to begin but controversies have already started taking birth.

Since there is so much money and publicity involved, controversies are a part and parcel of IPL.A recent controversy over cancellation of Jennifer Lopez’s live performance at the IPL6 opening ceremony has emerged.

Singer Jennifer Lopez blamed camp Shah Rukh for spreading rumours against her and tarnishing her image regarding her live performance cancellation at IPL 6 opening ceremony.

Jennifer Lopez was going to perform at IPL opening ceremony but the deal was cancelled at the last moment.

According to rumours JLo was putting unnecessary demands from organisers. JLo’s team is suspecting Red Chillies for planting fabricated stories against JLo.

A leading publication quoted a source as saying, “JLo is breathing fire. Her team has shot off a mail saying the details of the deal were known only to a select few officials in both teams. As it is unlikely that JLo’s team would plant a story against her, the needle of suspicion is pointing towards camp Shah Rukh. JLo’s team is very upset that her image has been tarnished.”

Red Chillies spokesperson clarified, “We are very excited about the opening ceremony of IPL Season 6. In the process of collaborating with different artistes to perform, from national and international platforms, we did consider Jennifer Lopez. Unfortunately due to scheduling conflicts, it didn’t work out. We hope to work with her in future. We are excited about working with Pitbull.”

“It is true Jennifer cancelled the gig at the last moment because she didn’t like the deal. That she asked for a private chartered plane is however not true. Yes, she had asked for exclusive arrangements to be made for her nearly 44 dancers and accompanying staff, which included her entourage of around 20 people. She had asked for a personal chef, stylist, butler, security etc. but these are demands that even Bollywood stars make when they perform abroad. Jennifer is extremely upset with the way things have panned out. There is an exchange of mails going on as we speak,” the source said.

Shah Rukh Khan is famous for his business acumen and creating controversies.

Last Year Shah Rukh Khan was banned from Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai for five years “for misbehaving with MCA officials and violating rules.”

It seems he knows very well how to capitalise on controversies

Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan cannot enter in Wankhede Stadium

Talks between MCA and IPL could not bring any good news for Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan.

Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan cannot enter in Wankhede Stadium during IPL 6.

Ban on Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan will continue. This has been confirmed by The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).MCA denied any possibility to lift the ban on Shah Rukh Khan.

Efforts were being made by IPL Chairman Rajiv Shukla to allow Shah Rukh Khan to enter to Wankhede Stadium.

MCA office bearers met with IPL and Mumbai Indians officials to discus but MCA is adamant on its decision.

MCA president Ravi Savant said “ The MCA stand remains the same. The managing committee had taken a decision of imposing a five-year ban on him (Khan) last year, and it will continue this season too,”

“I don’t want to talk much on the issue again. MCA has taken their stand and we will follow,” Savant further told this to media persons.
