Prime Minister said that he has nothing to hide and government submitted all pertinent documents and records to the JPC. PM also said that only JPC chairman can summon PM to appear before JPC.This demand should be decided internally.Indiviaudal members are not supposed to express their views outside JPC.
BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Tuesday demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and finance minister P Chidambaram should appear before JPC. Yashawant Sinha wrote a letter to PM in this regard.
In response to Sinha’s letter Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said , “I have received your letter of April 1, 2013 regarding the Joint Parliamentary Committee looking into the 2G matter. You are aware that all pertinent records and documents available with the Government have already been placed at the disposal of the JPC. I have said from the beginning that neither the Government nor I have anything to hide in this matter. The decision as to what evidence should be sought and which individuals should be asked to appear before the JPC is a matter that needs to be decided internally by the JPC and its Chairman.”
Left has also supported BJP leader’s demand to summon Manmohan Singh and P Chidambaram before JPC. Yashwant Sinha said government is trying to hide truth and it is in PM’s personal interest to appear before JPC .
He further said that many members in JPC demanded publically that PM should face JPC.
Yashwant Sinha had said. “Raja has written to the JPC to say that if he is guilty, so are the PM and the FM. Raja’s testimony will cause a lot of problems for both the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister, that is why he isn’t being called by the JPC,”
Sinha also expressed unhappiness on JPC proceedings. He said Why A Raja is not being called to appear before JPC while he wants to face JPC.This clearly indicates that government want to hide truth.
“The way in which the JPC proceedings are being conducted by its chairman is scandalous to the extreme. For over two months the meeting of the JPC has not been called and various members including me have been demanding convening of JPC meeting,” Sinha said.
“Raja has written to the JPC to say that if he is guilty, so are the PM and the FM. Raja’s testimony will cause a lot of problems for both the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister, that is why he isn’t being called by the JPC,” Yashwant Sinha further said.
JPC chief PC Chacko.termed Yashawant Sinha’s demand as ‘a political stunt and against the norms.’
