There is no doubt that internet has changed the way of interaction and connectivity and it is one of the most innovative creation of our time. The world is a village now thanks to internet. Internet has touched each facet of life. Indeed role of internet cannot be denied to bring political revolution in various countries like Egypyt, Seria and Turkey.
But still there are places on earth where internet is not available or affordable due to many factors like terrestrial challenges, economical issues and political issues as well.
In an effort to provide internet connectivity to everybody on earth Google came out with a innovative solution that is cost effective also. Google will provide internet on earth using balloons.
Sounds weird? All great ideas are weird initially till they become reality. Google named the project as Project loon.
What is the crazy idea ?
Google will build a ring of balloons that will fly around the globe on the stratospheric winds and will provide Internet access to the earth below. Speed of the internet will be similar to today’s 3G network and using this internet can be accessed to in rural, remote and undeserved areas.
Commercial planes will not affect these internet balloons as they will fly at altitudes twice as high as commercial planes.
What are the pros and cons?
There were many challenges faced by Google to solve this problem.Controling freely freely sailing balloons at high altitude was one of those challenges. It is a difficult task to control and regulate the path of the ring of the balloons. Google will use wind power and solar power to move the balloons up and down.
There is another major challenge that Google is trying to overcome. Google is trying to set the balloons for a particular region .If someone in India trying to connect with a balloon user should connect to India specific balloons only not to US specific balloons.
Google has launched 30 balloons in New Zealand to test this functionality and soon this will be launched for testing in different countries.
If this project is successful it will surely bring a revolution in internet. It is not difficult to imagine a world where free internet will be a reality and people from each corner of the earth are connected to each other.
